Everything in the open-source edition is included in the Enterprise Edition. Enterprise adds compliance governance, legal preservation, real-time capture, encryption at rest and stronger authentication — the capabilities regulated organizations are asked to evidence.
| Feature | Open Source | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | Self-hosted containers on your own infrastructure or cloud account. The deployment model is identical in both editions. | |
| Moving between editions | There is no need to reindex or re-import an existing archive: both editions share the same database schema, so switching between them is done by simply changing the Docker image. | |

Enterprise features are entitled individually by your license key, so a plan can include some and not others. Feature set described for Open Archiver 1.5.2.
The open-source edition is free to self-host with community support. Enterprise Edition is a commercial license for the same self-hosted software, priced per seat, and it adds the compliance and advanced security capabilities regulated organizations need: retention policies, legal holds, the audit log, journaling and organization-wide two-factor authentication policy with enforced enrollment.
You pay per seat, once. Larger seat counts fall into lower per-seat tiers, shown in the per-seat pricing table. The price includes the first 12 months of updates and support, and you can prepay a longer support window at checkout.
No. You buy the license once and it never expires — there is nothing to renew or cancel. What does run out is updates and technical support, which are included for the first 12 months and can be extended.
A seat is one mailbox you archive — an individual address in your organization that receives mail. For most companies, that is close to the number of user accounts in your Microsoft 365 tenant or Google Workspace domain.
Open Archiver counts the distinct email addresses it has stored mail for and reports that count when it verifies the license. Administrator logins and people who only search the archive are not counted, so a colleague who reads the archive but has no mailbox in it costs nothing.
Yes. Seat changes are handled by our team at the moment rather than in the billing page. Contact us and we will adjust your license. Self-service seat changes are planned.
Nothing is charged automatically. Your deployment reports its seat count when it verifies the license. If the count is above your plan, the license enters a 14-day grace period and the end date is shown on your license page. If the count is still above the plan when that period ends, Enterprise features are disabled until the license is updated. Contact us to raise the seat count.
Change the image tag from logiclabshq/open-archiver:latest to logiclabshq/open-archiver:latest-enterprise, set OA_LICENSE_KEY to your license key, and restart. Both editions use the same database schema, so your existing archive stays where it is. There is no re-import, no re-indexing and no migration.
Immediately. Your license key is issued as soon as your payment completes and is emailed to you, so you can set up the Enterprise deployment straight away. It also appears in your dashboard.
Yes. A 30-day money-back guarantee applies to your first payment. Request it within 30 calendar days of that payment. The full terms are in the Refund Policy.
Your license keeps working — it does not expire, and Enterprise features stay on. What stops is access to new versions and technical support from our team. Contact us to extend your support window at any time.
Enterprise covers compliance and advanced security: retention policies and legal holds, the tamper-evident audit log, integrity reports for auditors, journaling, AES-256 encryption of archived files, Single Sign-On, and the organization-wide two-factor authentication policy with enforced enrollment. Capture, storage, search, role-based access control and two-factor authentication itself are all in the open-source edition. The full comparison is further down this page.
Each license records how many separate deployments it allows, and each deployment identifies itself when it verifies the license. One system running across multiple nodes counts as a single deployment, however many nodes it has. The limit applies to separate installations, such as a standby or a staging copy. Contact us if you need more than one.
Enterprise licenses include email support from the team at hi@openarchiver.com for the first 12 months, together with all updates released in that time. You can extend that window at checkout or later. The open-source edition is supported by the community on GitHub and Discord.
Paddle is the merchant of record for Open Archiver. Invoices are available on your billing page, and you can enter a VAT or tax ID during checkout so reverse charge is applied where it is eligible.
